With warehousing around Australia and a central manufacturing facility, we take pride in offering the fastest delivery of stairs possible.
We provide a range of installation options, including using one of our installation teams or doing it yourself with our handy guides. On larger and regional developments we can provide training to your carpenters on how to install the stairs.
Install at frame stage.
Save time. Save money.
Stairlock’s Easy MDF system goes in at frame stage, before plastering, using our moisture-resistant E0 grade board. On volume residential and townhouse developments that’s an advantage: a fast, repeatable install on every lot, on top of the standard 25-year MDF guarantee.
-
Upper levels, reachable soonerInstalled at frame stage, our stairs give trades a permanent staircase instead of a ladder up an open void, so upper floors are reachable earlier and safely, keeping every trade moving.

Frequently asked questions about MDF staircases.
MDF stairs are staircases constructed using engineered medium-density fibreboard components, typically used in residential construction as a cost-effective and consistent alternative to solid timber. They are most commonly installed in volume-built homes where speed, repeatability, and uniform finishes are important. MDF staircases are particularly well suited to townhouses, duplexes and terraces.
Yes. MDF staircases always require a final finish. Common options include carpet, hybrid flooring, timber overlays, tiles, and in some cases paint systems designed specifically for MDF substrates. The choice usually depends on the project specification and desired aesthetic, but most volume residential builds use carpet or fully covered finishes to seamlessly match or complement the selected flooring system throughout the home.
MDF stairs offer greater consistency in manufacturing, reduced variation between components, and typically faster installation in volume residential builds. They are particularly well suited to townhouses, duplexes and terrace homes where repeatable outcomes, speed, and cost efficiency are key.
Timber stairs are often preferred for high-end architectural or feature applications where natural material variation and bespoke detailing are a priority. However, MDF stair systems can also be specified alongside timber elements, for example hardwood stringers, handrails, or balustrade components allow you to achieve a more premium aesthetic while retaining the efficiency and consistency of an MDF structural system.
MDF stair systems are typically prefabricated to precise measurements and installed as a complete system on site, reducing the need for extensive cutting or adjustment. This improves installation speed and consistency, particularly in new home construction environments such as townhouses, duplexes and other volume residential builds.
At Stairlock, we also offer the option to install your MDF staircase prior to gyprock or plasterboard. This allows trades earlier access to upper levels, improving site safety and overall construction productivity.
Yes. MDF stair systems can be designed and manufactured to meet the relevant parts of the NCC (National Construction Code) and Australian Standards for residential stair construction.
As with all staircases, compliance depends on the overall design, accurate measurements, and how the staircase is installed as part of the finished build. This is typically managed by the builder or building designer within the wider project.
At Stairlock, we supply engineered MDF stair systems and can also provide full installation where required. Whether supply-only or supply-and-install, our focus is on ensuring the staircase is manufactured to suit the approved plans and meet NCC requirements, helping make installation and compliance straightforward on site.
