Hamptons Style Custom Staircase with Metal Balusters, Wilton

This custom Hamptons staircase was designed to suit the traditional character of the home. The U-shaped stair runs across two flights, with custom hardwood timber treads on a cut string stringer and MDF closed risers. A feature tread at the base anchors the stair, with prestige Hamptons-style posts rising from it and continuing up through both flights to the upper level, where the balustrade extends beyond the staircase. Metal balusters fill the balustrade in an alternating pattern of loop and minimal profiles. A heritage profile timber handrail runs the full length of the stair. The treads and handrail were stained by the builder to a dark finish to complement the home.

The custom staircase combines hardwood timber treads, MDF risers and pine posts to build a stair that reads as a considered piece of joinery. The posts are finished white by the builder, tying the Hamptons detail back to the painted elements of the house’s interior.
