At Stairlock, sustainability isn’t a campaign, it’s how we’ve always operated. With four generations working with timber, we understand that how you build something matters as much as what you build. Every decision we make, from the timber we source to how we run our Adelaide facility, reflects a long-term view of our responsibility to the industry and the environment.
The materials carry most of the weight on sustainability, so we choose them for the long haul. Plantation timber where we can, responsibly sourced hardwood where we cannot, and low-emission board throughout.
Every stair is engineered and manufactured in Australia, not shipped in from overseas. Shorter supply lines, tighter control on quality, and the work stays local.
The most sustainable stair is the one nobody has to replace. Ours are made to be resanded and refinished rather than ripped out, so they stay in service for decades.

Most of the timber we work with is plantation grown, farmed for the purpose rather than taken from old growth.
The rest we buy from suppliers who source sustainably and carry FSC certification on their material.
The board we use is E0 grade, the lowest-emission MDF available in Australia. Less formaldehyde off the board means cleaner air on site and in the finished build
We would rather use a material twice than bin it. Offcuts get a second life in the product, board sizes are chosen to leave less on the floor, and what we cannot reuse is collected by third parties for recovery and recycling.
